Fixed vs Growth Mindset: 15 Key Differences You Need to Know
Hey guys! Today I am going to talk about Fixed vs Growth Mindset: 15 Key Differences You Need to Know, So let’s get started; Just some time ago I saw a very old video, that video was 16 years old video, I saw that which was very interesting!
In the video, a scientist takes some fleas and put in the
jar! If you do not know, then let me
tell you fleas are like a worm, which
hide inside the hairs of dogs and cat!
Fleas has so much capability
that they can get out of that jar
but the scientists immediately close that lid.
Table Of Content:
They keep them like this for three days! After three days, when they open the
lid, then guess what? Those fleas who could easily jump out of that
jar, now can't jump out of the same
jar!
They do the same fixed movements for the rest of their
life, even after the jar is completely
removed, which you must be seeing!
You will think that these insects are very stupid, they do not have a brain. But before you judge how stupid these insects
are, Let me tell you a very sad
thing! The sad thing is that we humans also sometimes behave like
fleas.
To be very honest, we
all are locked in this imaginary invisible jar.
We also live life according to a fixed area, a fixed mentality and
thinking that the society and the
teacher have given us, which they have set.
And the worst thing is that
even after being more smart than those fleas, because of which, like fleas, we also do not
know how much our mind set has become fixed.
Which is the number one reason, because of which more than
90% people are not able to achieve
something big in life. They are not able
to become the beast, unstoppable force that we can be.
Now some people would say, 'It's okay, man'! I don't think my mindset is fixed, and if you think so, you're not alone. That's what I always thought!
But when I learned the things of 'Mindset' book then I understood that how many times my
mindset also becomes fixed mindset which
stops me from moving forward and I don't even know!
I am sure it must have happened to you many times!
And to prove this, let's play a game! Let's take a test! To play this game, I'll take reference from
this amazing book named 'Mindset', whose
author is very famous, PHD Carol Dweck!
Who, you can say, have done the world's biggest study on
Fixed Mindset and Growth Mindset, and
this book has been written from the conclusion of her research.
Giving a summary of her book, I will tell you 15 such differences, out of which you have to check which of these things are coming inside
you and for that thing, give yourself a
point, and we will see in the end that
out of 15, how many fixed mindset things are inside you!
I am requesting you to do this test well till the end! You will also get the summary of this
book, and you will also be able to check
your mindset, growth or fixed
mindset!
Point Number 1
So now, let's start with point no. 1. There are people with a fixed mindset, they think that how big they can achieve in their life, how big they can do, that is also fixed like a line drawn on a
stone! The son of a taxi driver, at the
most, can become a good engineer.
Can't become a very big business tycoon! You must have heard some fixed minded people
saying this man, I will not be able to
buy such expensive things in my whole life!
We should dream after seeing our status! Or this house and car, I can't even in my
dreams! All these examples are of fixed
mindset!
Whereas people with growth mindset think that, their potential is unknown! No matter how bad their life is, they can change it, if they keep focusing on improving
themselves, on working and on getting
new experiences, and keep training
themselves!
Point Number 2
Second point, People
with fixed mindset think that, their
talent, skills and creativity are also fixed!
Some people are talented since childhood, while some people are not! In short, this sample statement runs in their
mind that either you are capable of
doing that work or not!
That's it!
Suppose, a person sees that, today, it is very lucrative to become a
content creator, you can create multiple
income sources out of it.
you can create a strong personal brand, and can earn crores with a single tweet like
Elon Musk, or you can grow your business
more than 10x, by just creating content
sitting at home! That's why he start
creating videos by getting motivated! As
he starts, he starts facing
problems!
He feels nervous! He
feel anxious, gets confused! Because of
lack of planing and many reasons, he is
not able to make a video and even if it
is made, it is very bad! After which he
decides that man, this is not for me!
I will not be able to do it!
Youtubers are many talented and skilled people! They must have a lot of time.
I don't have time to do all this! All these things are a classic example of
fixed mindset. Because as a creator
myself, I can guarantee you, when maximum creators start, they have to face all these problems! But still they are able to move forward! Why?
Because they have a growth mindset not fixed mindset! They know that if they keep doing things
continuously, they will become good in
it!
Because as a creator myself, I can guarantee you, I and many successful creators, when they
were starting, they weren't great like
normal people! Growth mindset is what
took us beyond unsuccessful people!
Suppose, if you are interested in content creation, and want to develop growth mindset related to
it, I've created a mindset course for
you, which is very valuable and you must
watch, I've put its link in
description!
You'll get this course on zeeshanshaikh.info, which you can enroll for free! As you enroll, you'll be eligible to attend live workshop, In which we will talk live related to
mindset through content creation, how
you can create more than 15 income sources
and will also do QnA i.e. Questions and Answers. So that you can solve your doubts.
Similarly, you will get to learn many interesting things
from me, so for this you must go and enroll! See you in that live workshop!
Point Number 3
Now let’s come to the third point! Those who have fixed mindset, wait for
results and outcome. They want success
in life, that too very quickly! Because
they believe in fixed traits.
Success means they are good,
failure means they are bad! And
it can't be changed! Means, being better
in things with time, testing
yourself, they don't understand all
these things.
Example, I see many
people create videos and says, I made a
video and uploaded, but not getting views,
I am not good at it.
Or some people post video and it gets viral, and they consider themselves very great! Whereas both these things are wrong! You get better with time!
That thing is important.
Whereas people with growth mindset think, they will keep uploading video and getting
better at it.
Point Number 4
This is third point.
Now let's come to the fourth point.
People with fixed mindset, put all their energy in blaming others, because they think that they won't improve
themselves, and to save their self
esteem, they blame others.
'Man, if my parents had money, I would be doing business today! If government supported well, then we would have been very rich, etc.
People with growth mindset take responsibility for everything and focus on improving themselves, which is under their control!
Point Number 5
Fifth, People with
fixed mindset are afraid to ask questions!
Because they don't like being stupid in front of others!
Whereas people with growth mindset, are not afraid being stupid for a while! Example,
many times a teacher asks about doubts.
But still we don't raise hands, because we think that people will consider us
stupid. And there is also a famous quote
related to it, 'The man who asks a
question is a fool for a minute, but the man who doesn't ask is a fool for
life'. And along-with it, it also
happens that people know answer, but
still they don't raise hands.
Because they think if I give wrong answer they will make fun
of me whereas their answers are right
and then later they regret! That I wish
I had answered by raising my hand! This
is also a sign of fixed mindset!
Point Number 6
Sixth! People with
fixed mindset are afraid to do new things
because they don't want to be seen as stupid in front of others! Example,
ordering at a new restaurant,
making videos in front of the camera,
or doing anything doing which they can be seen as stupid.
Point Number 7 And Also 8
Seventh! People with
fixed mindset work hard, but to defend
their ego. Example, If Rahul was good in Maths in childhood, for which he got appraisal from others, so he will focus on just that quality.
And in coming time, he will talk related to that topic
only, in which he is comfortable! Because he thinks, he is good in maths
only and that is his identity.
Whereas people with growth mindset, are open to listen any topic! They don't get scared! People with fixed mindset think that if life
is like a game of cards, then the cards
they got are bad and random. Due to
which they can't do anything and lose.
Example, when you were
a kid and used to do something good,
maybe you used to get praise for that!
But as you grow up, you start to feel like I'm not special! Because things started getting
difficult! And you started to feel like
you're not special!
You are left thinking of yourself as just an average
person whereas those who are people with
growth mindset know that sometimes even
big people are average or worse in the
beginning and after a time they become
extra ordinary from average.
Point Number 9
Ninth! People with
fixed mindset do study, just for the
test! So that they can get good
marks, so that they can look good in
front of teachers and parents, or they
can get admission in a good college!
Whereas people with growth mindset,
they focus on learning.
They don't have to impress anyone but have to learn things in actual, have to learn skills, and get concepts cleared! Because of which these people probably do not
do so well in the exam but move forward
in real life.
Point Number 10
Tenth! People with
fixed mindset are very afraid of failures!
but move forward in real life.
Because as I told you, they feel that talent is inborn! Means if they are failing, that means they
are lacking something.
Whereas people with growth mindset are not afraid of
failures! They know that whenever a
person does something new he is bad in
it! But after failing, he learns and when he tries again, he will become
better! And he will repeat this cycle
again and again!
The more he fails,
the more he will achieve success!
That's why these people are not afraid of taking new challenges! They keep pushing their limits always, which brings them in 1%.
Point Number 11
Eleventh! People with
fixed mindset think, 'Man, I am not that
smart', whereas people with growth
mindset think, 'Man, I am not smart but
for just now, after sometime, I'll
become smart in it'.
Point Number 12
Twelfth! People with fixed mindset think, they can't change fundamental things like personality. Whereas people with growth mindset, they don't define themselves by anything! Example, People with fixed mindset think, that's how I am!
'I can't sleep early in the night!' 'I can't wake up early in the morning'. 'I can't talk to people, I don't like!' Whereas people with growth mindset think they
can do anything at right time! And can also
change themselves!
Point Number 13
Thirteen! People with
fixed mindset consider relationship a fixed thing! Because of which if their relationship was
boring then it will remain boring forever.
Or if they fight, they always fight! Because they think that they don't have the
capability to change! Whereas people
with growth mindset change themselves,
and also support their partner to become better, which helps them to grow in
relationship!
Point Number 14
Fourteenth! If we see
as per business prospective, author
gives an example of a business head for fixed mindset, in which she tells, that person used to
refrain any skilled person from giving their opinions.
So that he can always look like the smartest person of the
company! Due to which the company faced
huge loss! Similarly, people who have a
fixed mindset, whenever another person
gives an opinion and especially when
someone gives an opinion different from them,
they become very uncomfortable listening to it and and quarrel.
Last Point
And last fifteenth!
Friends, always remember it's not
that a person has 100% growth or fixed mindset!
Every person keeps jumping between growth and fixed mindset! It's our job to notice when our mindset is
fixed, which is stopping us to move
forward! And to do that, the most important
thing is to speak truth!
Maximum people with fixed mindset don't speak truth, to not even others, and also lies to themselves!
During this, if you were thinking that 'I am not like this,
I never did this, I have growth
mindset, then this can also a sign that
you are lying to yourself, because
usually, most of the time we do these things.
I also do! That's why it is a
sign of fixed mindset which we should change!
Speak truth to yourself!
And tell the truth by commenting below how much score you have got out
of 15! Because many times like I told
you earlier Many times we lie to others
and lie to ourselves, and this is a sign
of fixed mindset which is very important for us to change!
That's why you must tell by commenting, that how much score did you get out of
15.
I am speaking from the bottom of my heart, that if we work on our mindset, and become person with a growth mindset, then we will become an unstoppable force, which can do great things in life! That's why it is important to achieve growth mindset!
